Title: Intersecting surface defects and instanton partition functions

Abstract

We analyze intersecting surface defects inserted in interacting four-dimensional N = 2 supersymmetric quantum field theories. We employ the realization of a class of such systems as the infrared xed points of renormalization group flows from larger theories, triggered by perturbed Seiberg-Witten monopole-like con gurations, to compute their partition functions. These results are cast into the form of a partition function of 4d/2d/0d coupled systems. In conclusion, our computations provide concrete expressions for the instanton partition function in the presence of intersecting defects and we study the corresponding ADHM model.

We investigate the Seiberg-Witten monopole equations on noncommutative (N.C.) R{sup 4} at the large N.C. parameter limit, in terms of the equivariant cohomology. It is known that after topological twisting partition functions of N>1 supersymmetric theories on N.C. R{sup 2D} are invariant under the N.C. parameter shift; then the partition functions can be calculated by its dimensional reduction. The Seiberg-Witten solution of {ital N}=2 supersymmetric SU(2) gauge theory may be viewed as a prediction for the infinite family of constants {l_brace}F{sub {ital n}}{r_brace} measuring the {ital n}-instanton contribution to the prepotential F. We further discuss the {ital N}=2 superinstantons in SU(2) gauge theory, obtained from the general self-dual solutions of topological charge {ital n} constructed by Atiyah, Drinfeld, Hitchin, and Manin (ADHM). Seiberg-Witten geometry of four-dimensional $N = 2$ SO–USp quiver gauge theories

We apply the instanton counting method to study a class of four-dimensional N=2 supersymmetric quiver gauge theories with alternating SO and USp gauge groups. We compute the partition function in the Ω-background and express it as functional integrals over density functions. Applying the saddle point method, we derive the limit shape equations which determine the dominant instanton configurations in the flat space limit. The solution to the limit shape equations gives the Seiberg-Witten geometry of the low energy effective theory. On ’t Hooft defects, monopole bubbling and supersymmetric quantum mechanics

We revisit the localization computation of the expectation values of ’t Hooft operators in N = 2* SU(N) theory on R³ × S¹. We show that the part of the answer arising from “monopole bubbling” on R³ can be understood as an equivariant integral over a Kronheimer-Nakajima moduli space of instantons on an orbifold of C². It can also be described as a Witten index of a certain supersymmetric quiver quantum mechanics with N = (4, 4) supersymmetry.
