Here, the structural, magnetic, and magnetotransport properties of Ni_50-xCr_xMn₃₇In₁₃ Heusler alloys have been synthesized and investigated by x-ray diffraction (XRD), field and pressure dependent magnetization, and electrical resistivity measurements. The partial substitution of Ni by Cr in Ni₅₀Mn₃₇In₁₃ significantly improves the magnetocaloric effect in the vicinity of the martensitic transition (T_M). This system also shows a large negative entropy change at the Curie temperature (T_C), making it a candidate material for application in a refrigeration cycle that exploits both positive and negative magnetic entropy changes. The structural, magnetic, magnetocaloric, and transport properties of Ni₅₀Mn₃₅In_15-xBi_x (x = 0, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 1.5) compounds has been studied through X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry, and magnetization measurements. A mixture of high temperature austenite phase (AP) and low temperature martensitic phase (MP) was observed from the XRD at room temperature. The saturation magnetization M_S at 10 K was found to decrease with increasing Bi content. The magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of Ni{sub 48}Co{sub 2}Mn{sub 35}In{sub 15} were studied using magnetization and heat capacity measurements. The magnetic entropy change ({Delta}S{sub M}) was evaluated from both magnetizing and demagnetizing fields. An inverse {Delta}S{sub M} for the magnetizing and demagnetizing processes were found to be 20.5 and 18.5 J kg{sup -1} K{sup -1}, respectively, for {Delta}H = 5 T at the martensitic transition (T = T{sub M}). The normal {Delta}S{sub M} was found to be -5.4 J kg{sup -1} K{sup -1} for both fields at the paramagnetic/ferromagnetic transition (T = T{sub C}). Magnetostructural transitions and magnetocaloric effects in Ni₅₀Mn₃₅In_14.25B_0.75 ribbons

The structural, thermal, and magnetic behaviors, as well as the martensitic phase transformation and related magnetocaloric response of Ni₅₀Mn₃₅In_14.25B_0.75 annealed ribbons have been investigated using room-temperature X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and magnetization measurements. Ni₅₀Mn₃₅In_14.25B_0.75 annealed ribbons show a sharper change in magnetization at the martensitic transition, resulting in larger magnetic entropy changes in comparison to bulk Ni₅₀Mn₃₅In_14.25B_0.75.
