Lifetimes of intermediate-spin states in two rotational bands of ⁹⁹Zr have been measured. These states were populated following the neutron-induced fission of ²³⁵U at the PF1B beamline of the Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble, during the EXILL-FATIMA campaign. The nucleus ⁹⁹Zr₅₉ exhibits shape coexistence and lies precisely on the border of an abrupt change in ground-state deformation when going from N = 58 to N = 60, making its study interesting for understanding the mechanisms involved in the rapid onset of deformation here. Symmetry and Shape Coexistence in ¹⁰Be

Within the low-lying spectrum of ¹⁰Be, multiple rotational bands are found, with strikingly different moments of inertia. A proposed interpretation has been that these bands variously represent triaxial rotation and prolate axially-deformed rotation. The bands are well-reproduced in ab initio no-core configuration interaction (NCCI) calculations. Here, we use the calculated wave functions to elucidate the nuclear shapes underlying these bands, by examining the Elliott SU(3) symmetry content of these wave functions. A three-configuration mixing calculation is presented in the context of the Interacting Boson Model (IBM), with the aim to describe recently observed collective bands built on low-lying 0+ states in the neutron-deficient lead isotopes. Possible effects on the nuclear binding energy are addressed, caused by mixing of these low-lying 0+ intruder states into the ground state, and a new method is described in order to provide a consistent description of both ground-state and excited-state properties.

Investigation of negative-parity states in ${}^{156}{Dy}$ : Search for evidence of tetrahedral symmetry

In this paper, an experiment populating low/medium-spin states in ¹⁵⁶Dy was performed to investigate the possibility of tetrahedral symmetry in this nucleus. In particular, focus was placed on the low-spin, negative-parity states since recent theoretical studies suggest that these may be good candidates for this high-rank symmetry. The states were produced in the ¹⁴⁸Nd(¹²C,4n) reaction and the Gammasphere array was utilized to detect the emitted γ rays. B(E2)/B(E1) ratios of transition probabilities from the low-spin, negative-parity bands were determined and used to interpret whether these structures are best associated with tetrahedral symmetry or, as previously assigned, to octupole vibrations. New low-energy $0^{+}$ state and shape coexistence in ${}^{70}{Ni}$

We report that in recent models, the neutron-rich Ni isotopes around N=40 are predicted to exhibit multiple low-energy excited 0⁺ states attributed to neutron and proton excitations across both the N=40 and Z=28 shell gaps. In ⁶⁸Ni, the three observed 0⁺ states have been interpreted in terms of triple shape coexistence between spherical, oblate, and prolate deformed shapes. In the present work a new (0₂⁺) state at an energy of 1567 keV has been discovered in ⁷⁰Ni by using β-delayed, γ-ray spectroscopy following the decay of ⁷⁰Co.
