Examining the role of transfer coupling in sub-barrier fusion of ${}^{46, 50}{Ti} + {}^{124}{Sn}$

In this study, the presence of neutron transfer channels with positive Q values can enhance sub-barrier fusion cross sections. Recent measurements of the fusion excitation functions for ⁵⁸Ni+^132,124Sn found that the fusion enhancement due to the influence of neutron transfer is smaller than that in ⁴⁰Ca +^132,124Sn although the Q values for multineutron transfer are comparable. The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences observed between the fusion of Sn + Ni and Sn + Ca. Lifetimes or lifetime limits of a small number of excited states of the sulfur isotopes with mass numbers A = 35 , 36, 37, and 38 have been measured using the differential recoil-distance method. The isotopes of sulfur were populated in binary grazing reactions initiated by a beam of ³⁶S ions of energy 225 MeV incident on a thin ²⁰⁸Pb target which was mounted in the Cologne plunger apparatus. The combination of the PRISMA magnetic spectrometer and an early implementation of the AGATA γ-ray tracking array was used to detect γ rays in coincidence with projectile-like nuclear species.
