Effect of Sintering Atmosphere on the Synthesis Process, Electrical and Mechanical Properties of NiFe{sub 2}O{sub 4}/Nano-TiN Ceramics

NiFe{sub 2}O{sub 4}/nano-TiN ceramics were fabricated by a two-step cold-pressing sintering process. Effect of sintering atmosphere (air, nitrogen, argon) on the synthesis process of NiFe{sub 2}O{sub 4}/nano-TiN ceramics was investigated. The DSC-TG and XRD analysis results indicated that besides principal phases of NiO and NiFe{sub 2}O{sub 4}, new-phase Ni{sub 3}TiO{sub 5} formed in the sintered ceramics under the three sintering atmospheres, and metallic phase including iron and nickel appeared in the sintered samples with inert gas (nitrogen, argon) sintering condition. The Prediction and Simulation for the Mechanical Properties of Ceramic-Based Composites Reinforced with Nano-Micro Particles

The global-local homogenization method with precise period boundary conditions is applied to predict and simulate the mechanical properties of ceramic composites reinforced by spherical nano-micro particles with enwrapping and nesting arrays. The numerical simulation is performed with different size ratios of nano-micro particles, and different configurations for representative volume element. The results show that the low radius ratios of nano-micro particles produce a larger effective Young's modulus for its more uniform dispersion, and the hexagon RVE with nesting array can make an overestimation for effective elastic modulus of ceramic composites, and the interfacial damage between nano-microscopic particles and matrix degeneratesmore »« less

Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}-TiC Composite Prepared by Spark Plasma Sintering Process: Evaluation of Mechanical and Tribological Properties

Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}-10TiC composites were synthesized by spark plasma sintering (SPS) process. Microstructural and mechanical properties of the composite reveal homogeneous distribution of the fine TiC particles in the matrix. The samples were produced with different sintering temperature, and it shows that the hardness and density gradually increases with increasing sintering temperature. Abrasion wear test result reveals that the composite sintered at 1500 °C shows high abrasion resistance (wt. loss ~ 0.016 g) and the lowest abrasion resistance was observed for the composite sample sintered at 1100 °C (wt. loss ~ 1.459 g).
