The complex behavior of a molecular wave packet initiated by an extreme ultraviolet (XUV) pulse is investigated with noncollinear wave mixing spectroscopy. A broadband XUV pulse spanning 12-16 eV launches a wave packet in H₂ comprising a coherent superposition of multiple electronic and vibrational levels. The molecular wave packet evolves freely until a delayed few-cycle optical laser pulse arrives to induce nonlinear signals in the XUV via four-wave mixing (FWM). The angularly resolved FWM signals encode rich energy exchange processes between the optical laser field and the XUV-excited molecule. Many of the most impressive demonstrations of the efficient generation of vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) light have made use of two- photon resonantly enhanced four-wave mixing to generate light at ..omega../sub VUV/ = 2..omega../sub L1/ +- ..omega../sub L2/. The two-photon resonance state is coupled to the ground state both by two photons from the first laser, or by a photon from the second laser and one from the generated VUV beam. Efficient generation of the 7th harmonic of Ti:sapphire (114.6 nm) vacuum ultraviolet pulses with 60 fs duration by non-collinear four-wave mixing in argon

The recent advances in femtosecond vacuum UV (VUV) pulse generation, pioneered by the work of Noack et al., has enabled new experiments in ultrafast time-resolved spectroscopy. Expanding on this work, we report the generation of 60 fs VUV pulses at the 7th harmonic of Ti:sapphire with more than 50 nJ of pulse energy at a repetition rate of 1 kHz. Additionally, the 114.6 nm pulses are produced using non-collinear four-wave difference-frequency mixing in argon. Preparation of multiparty entangled states using pairwise perfectly efficient single-probe photon four-wave mixing

We propose a scheme to achieve multiparty entanglement with perfectly efficient, ultraslow, multichannel pairwise four-wave mixing (FWM). A cold atomic medium is illuminated with an N-mode continuous-wave (cw) control laser to produce coherent mixtures of excited states. An ultraslowly propagating, single-photon quantum probe field completes multichannel, pairwise FWM, creating a depth dependent entanglement of N Fock states. We show explicitly that this scheme can be utilized to realize an N-party entangled state of ultraslowly propagating quantized fields.
