Structural characteristics and available critical exponent measurements fail to distinguish clearly between Ising and Heisenberg critical behavior in Gd. In this context we present a new perturbed ..gamma gamma..-angular correlation measurement of the exponent ..beta.. which appears to resolve the ambiguity. From our result, ..beta.. = 0.399(16), we conclude that Gd is described by Heisenberg critical behavior for reduced temperatures epsilon>10/sup -3/. This does not exclude crossover to another value for smaller epsilon.

Critical exponents, scaling law, universality and renormalization group flow in strong coupling QED

The critical behavior of strongly coupled QED with a chiral-invariant four-fermion interaction (gauged Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model) is investigated through the unquenched Schwinger-Dyson equation including the fermion loop effect at the one-loop level. In this paper it is shown that the critical exponents satisfy the (hyper)scaling relations as in the quenched case. However, the respective critical exponent takes the classical mean-field value, and consequently unquenched QED belongs to the same universality class as the zero-charge model. Surface critical exponents of self-avoiding walks and trails on a square lattice: The universality classes of the. theta. and. theta. prime points

Using the scanning method we carry out for the first time extensive simulations of trails and self-avoiding walks (SAWs) terminally attached to an adsorbing linear boundary on a square lattice. A bulk attraction energy is also defined for a self-intersection of a trail and a pair of nonbonded nearest-neighbor monomers of a SAW. The chains are simulated at the special point. Our critical exponents differ significantly from the exact values of Vanderzande, Stella, and Seno (Phys. Rev. Lett. 67, 2757 (1991)) for the {theta}{prime} model. Critical exponents, hyperscaling, and universal amplitude ratios for two- and three-dimensional self-avoiding walks

We make a high-precision Monte Carlo study of two- and three-dimensional self-avoiding walks (SAWs) of length up to 80,000 steps, using the pivot algorithm and the Karp-Luby algorithm. We study the critical exponents v and 2{triangle}{sub 4}-{gamma} as well as several universal amplitude ratios; in particular, we make an extremely sensitive test of the hyperscaling relation dv=2{triangle}{sub 4}-{gamma}. In two dimensions, we confirm the predicted exponent v=3/4 and the hyperscaling relation; we estimate the universal ratios / = 0.14026{+-}0.00007, / = 0.43961{+-}0.00034, and {Psi}* = 0.66296{+-}0.00043 (68% confidence limits).
