First-principles calculations were performed to investigate the phase stability and transition within four monolayer transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMD) systems, i.e., MX{sub 2} (M = Mo or W and X = S or Se) under coupled electron doping and lattice deformation. With the lattice distortion and electron doping density treated as state variables, the energy surfaces of different phases were computed, and the diagrams of energetically preferred phases were constructed. These diagrams assess the competition between different phases and predict conditions of phase transitions for the TMDs considered. Abstract Ultrathin Janus two-dimensional (2D) materials are attracting intense interest currently. Substitutional doping of 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) is of importance for tuning and possible enhancement of their electronic, physical and chemical properties toward industrial applications. Using systematic first-principles computations, we propose a class of Janus 2D materials based on the monolayers MX ₂ (M = V, Nb, Ta, Tc, or Re; X = S, Se, or Te) with halogen (F, Cl, Br, or I) or pnictogen (N, P, As, Sb, or Bi) substitution. Magnetic order and electronic phase diagrams of electron-doped copper oxide materials

We report muon spin relaxation and rotation measurements on sintered ceramic samples of Nd{sub 2{minus}{ital x}}Ce{sub {ital x}}CuO{sub 4{minus}{ital y}} and a large single crystal of Nd{sub 2}CuO{sub 4{minus}{ital y}}. We find an electronic phase diagram that is quite similar to that of hole-doped superconductors such as La{sub 2{minus}{ital x}}Sr{sub {ital x}}CuO{sub 4{minus}{ital y}}, although the doping of electrons into the system is less efficient in destroying the static moments on the copper ions. Static magnetic order appears in Nd{sub 2}CuO{sub 4{minus}{ital y}} below about 250 K; two spin reorientations are seen at {ital T}=75 and 35 K, providing informationmore » about the muon site in this material.« less
