We generalize the derivation of viscous anisotropic hydrodynamics from kinetic theory to allow for nonzero particle masses. The macroscopic theory is obtained by taking moments of the Boltzmann equation after expanding the distribution function around a spheroidally deformed local momentum distribution whose form has been generalized by the addition of a scalar field that accounts nonperturbatively (i.e., already at leading order) for bulk viscous effects. Hydrodynamic equations for the parameters of the leading-order distribution function and for the residual (next-to-leading order) dissipative flows are obtained from the three lowest moments of the Boltzmann equation. Parallel shear flow instabilities in strongly coupled Yukawa liquids: A comparison of generalized hydrodynamic model and molecular dynamics results

Using a generalized hydrodynamic (GH) model, the growth rate spectra of Kelvin-Helmholtz (KH) instability has been obtained analytically for a step shear profile in strongly coupled Yukawa liquids. The class of shear flows studied is assumed to be incompressible in nature. The growth rate spectra calculated exhibit viscous damping at high mode numbers, destabilization at stronger coupling, and in the limit {tau}{sub m} (viscoelastic relaxation time){yields}0, reduce to the regular Navier-Stokes growth rate spectra. Viscous hydrodynamics for nonconformal anisotropic fluids

A new formulation of (3+1)-dimensional anisotropic hydrodynamics is presented that accounts nonperturbatively for the large longitudinal-transverse pressure anisotropy and bulk viscous pressure in heavy-ion collisions. The initialization of the anisotropic hydrodynamic stage is discussed, and a comparison to standard viscous hydrodynamics for (0+1)- dimensional Bjorken expansion is presented.

Nonconformal kinetic theory and hydrodynamics for Bjorken flow

Using and comparing kinetic theory and second-order Chapman-Enskog hydrodynamics, we study the nonconformal dynamics of a system undergoing Bjorken expansion. We use the concept of “free-streaming fixed lines” for scaled shear and bulk stresses in nonconformal kinetic theory and hydrodynamics, and show that these fixed lines behave as early-time attractors and repellors of the evolution. In the conformal limit, the free-streaming fixed lines reduce to the well-known fixed points of conformal Bjorken dynamics. Shear spectral sum rule in a nonconformal gravity dual

A sum rule which relates a stress-energy tensor correlator to thermodynamic functions is examined within the context of a simple nonconformal gravity dual. Such a sum rule was previously derived using AdS/CFT for conformal N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, but we show that it does not generalize to the nonconformal theory under consideration. We provide a generalized sum rule and numerically verify its validity. A useful by-product of the calculation is the computation of the spectral density in a strongly coupled nonconformal theory. Qualitative features of the spectral densities and implications for lattice measurements of transport coefficients are discussed.
