Charge-density-wave and superconductivity d-wave gaps in the Hubbard model for underdoped high-T{sub c} cuprates

We present a general theory of coexisting charge-density-wave (CDW) and superconductivity d-wave gaps for the two-dimensional (2D) Hubbard model. This motivates the description of the normal state of the underdoped cuprates by the previous fluctuation-exchange equations with a phenomenological CDW d-wave gap. The resulting neutron-scattering intensity, spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T{sub 1}, magnetic susceptibility, resistivity, and photoemission intensity are in qualitative agreement with the data on underdoped high-T{sub c} cuprates. The T{sub c} decreases and the crossover temperature T{sub {asterisk}} for 1/T{sub 1}T increases with increasing amplitude of the CDW gap. {copyright} {ital 1997} {ital The American Physical Society}

Atomic-scale electronic structure of the cuprate pair density wave state coexisting with superconductivity

In this work, by making a variety of quantitative comparisons between electronic visualization experiments and a theory describing coexisting pair density wave and superconductive states in cuprates, we find striking correspondence throughout. Therefore, our model can explain the microscopic origins of many key atomic-scale phenomena of the cuprate broken-symmetry state.
