Layered cobaltites RBaCo2O5.5 (R = rare earth and Y) undergo a sequence of magnetic and electronic transitions between antiferromagnetic/ferrimagnetic/paramagnetic and insulating/paramagnetic metallic states with respective transition temperatures TN ( 230 260 K) < TC ( 250 290 K) < TMI ( 360 K). We have synthesized a Nd1 xCaxBaCo2O5.5 series (0 x 0.2) of cation-[(Nd,Ca)/Ba]-ordered and oxygen vacancy-ordered materials and investigated them by neutron diffraction, magnetization, and electronic and thermal transport. Effect of substituting Ce at the Ca site on the high-temperature superconductor Bi{sub 2}Sr{sub 2}CaCu{sub 2}O{sub 8+{delta}}

We have investigated the system Bi{sub 2}Sr{sub 2}Ca{sub 1{minus}{ital x}}Ce{sub {ital x}}Cu{sub 2}O{sub 8+{delta}} (0{le}{ital x}{le}0.5) to study the effect of substituting Ce for Ca on superconductivity in the Bi{sub 2}Sr{sub 2}CaCu{sub 2}O{sub 8+{delta}} system ({ital T}{sub {ital c}}=90 K). It is observed that, on 25 at.{percent} substitution of Ce for Ca, superconductivity is completely suppressed. This is relatively faster suppression of superconductivity compared to that seen on substituting other rare earths for Ca where {approximately}50 at.{percent} substitution is required to suppress superconductivity. Oxide ion conductivity has been measured in the complete solid solution series Ca{sub 1{minus}x}Na{sub x}Bi{sub 2}Nb{sub 2}O{sub 9{minus}x/2}, 0 {<=} x {<=} 1, and for comparison, in CaBi{sub 2}Nb{sub 2{minus}y}Ti{sub y}O{sub 9{minus}y/2}, 0 {<=} y {<=} 0.15. At x = 0.1, the conductivities of Ca{sub 1{minus}x}Na{sub x}Bi{sub 2}Nb{sub 2}O{sub 9{minus}x/2} and CaBi{sub 2}Nb{sub 2}O{sub 9} are similar. Enhancement of Curie temperature in Mn{sub 2}RuSn by Co substitution

The Co-substituted Mn{sub 2}RuSn nanomaterials, namely, Mn{sub 2}Ru{sub 0.5}Co{sub 0.5}Sn and Mn{sub 2}Ru{sub 0.35}Co{sub 0.65}Sn have been synthesized and investigated. The presence of Co in the Mn{sub 2}RuSn (a = 6.21 Å) decreased the lattice parameter, where a = 6.14 Å and 6.12 Å for the as prepared Mn{sub 2}Ru{sub 0.5}Co{sub 0.5}Sn and Mn{sub 2}Ru{sub 0.35}Co{sub 0.65}Sn, respectively. The samples show a ferrimagnetic spin order with relatively small coercivities, similar to those of soft magnetic materials.
