In the MSSM extended by a complete vectorlike family, precise top, bottom and tau Yukawa coupling unification can be achieved assuming SUSY threshold corrections which are typical for comparable superpartner masses. Furthermore, the unification is possible with a large unified coupling, implying that all three fermion masses can be simultaneously close to their IR fixed points. Assuming unified Yukawa couplings of order one or larger, the preferred common scale of new physics (superpartners and vectorlike matter) is in the 3 TeV to 30 TeV range, with larger couplings favoring smaller scales. Gauge coupling unification in the minimal supersymmetric standard model plus five flavors

We investigate gauge coupling unification at 2-loops for theories with 5 extra vectorlike SU(5) fundamentals added to the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). This is a borderline case where unification is only predicted in certain regions of parameter space. We establish a lower bound on the scale for the masses of the extra flavors, as a function of the sparticle masses. Models far outside of the bound do not predict unification at all (but may be compatible with unification), and models outside but near the boundary cannot reliably claim to predict it with an accuracy comparable to the MSSM prediction.more »« less

Signatures of lower-scale gauge coupling unification in the standard model due to extended Higgs sector

The gauge coupling unification can be achieved at a unification scale around 5×10{sup 13} GeV if the Standard Model scalar sector is extended with extra Higgs-like doublets. The relevant new scalar degrees of freedom in the form of chiral Z* and W* vector bosons might “be visible” already at about 700 GeV. Their eventual preferred coupling to the heavy quarks explains the non observation of these bosons in the first LHC run and provides promising expectation for the second LHC run.

Gauge coupling unification with large extra dimensions

We make a detailed study of the unification of gauge couplings in the MSSM with large extra dimensions. We find some scenarios where unification can be achieved [with {alpha}{sub 3}(M{sub Z}) within 1{sigma} of the experimental value] with both the compactification scale and the SUSY breaking scale in the few TeV range. No enlargement of the gauge group or particle content is needed. One particularly interesting scenario is when the SUSY breaking scale is larger than the compactification scale, but both are small enough to be probed at the CERN LHC. Insensitive unification of gauge couplings with three vector-like families

The standard model extended by three vector-like families with masses of order 1 TeV - 100 TeV allows for unification of gauge couplings. The values of gauge couplings at the electroweak scale are highly insensitive to fundamental parameters. The grand unification scale is large enough to avoid the problem with fast proton decay. The electroweak minimum of the Higgs potential is stable.
