Effect of exciton localization and delocalization on magnetic-field-dependent photoluminescence linewidths in semiconductors

Theory and data are presented for the photoluminescence linewidth in ordered and disordered semiconductor alloys (In{sub 0.48}Ga{sub 0.52}P) at low temperatures. In disordered (ordered) systems, the linewidth is due to exciton localization (exciton-impurity scattering) and increases (decreases) as a function of the field in agreement with the data.

Controlling the delocalization-localization transition of light via electromagnetically induced transparency

We propose a scheme to realize a transition from delocalization to localization of light waves via electromagnetically induced transparency. The system we suggested is a resonant cold atomic ensemble having N configuration, with a control field consisting of two pairs of laser beams with different cross angles, which produce an electromagnetically induced quasiperiodic waveguide (EIQPW) for the propagation of a signal field. By appropriately tuning the incommensurate rate or relative modulation strength between the two pairs of control-field components, the signal field can exhibit the delocalization-localization transition as it transports inside the atomic ensemble. Proposed signature of Anderson localization and correlation-induced delocalization in an N-leg optical lattice

We propose a realization of the one-dimensional random dimer model and certain N-leg generalizations using cold atoms in an optical lattice. We show that these models exhibit multiple delocalization energies that depend strongly on the symmetry properties of the corresponding Hamiltonian, and we provide analytical and numerical results for the localization length as a function of energy. We demonstrate that the N-leg systems possess similarities with their one-dimensional ancestors but are demonstrably distinct. The existence of critical delocalization energies leads to dips in the momentum distribution that serve as a clear signal of the localization-delocalization transition. In magnetic fusion toroidal confinement devices, the confining magnetic fields may have errors which produce magnetic islands. The standard method of investigating magnetic field errors involves measuring the maximum radial spatial extent of a given magnetic island at a fixed toroidal location and calling this measurement the island width. However, because of magnetic flux conservation inside an island, the spatial width of the island is not toroidally invariant.
