Decoherence-free creation of atom-atom entanglement in a cavity via fractional adiabatic passage

We propose a robust and decoherence insensitive scheme to generate controllable entangled states of two three-level atoms interacting with an optical cavity and a laser beam. Losses due to atomic spontaneous transitions and to cavity decay are efficiently suppressed by employing fractional adiabatic passage and appropriately designed atom-field couplings. In this scheme the two atoms traverse the cavity-mode and the laser beam in opposite directions and become entangled in the free space outside the cavity. We also show that the coherence of a traveling atom can be transferred to the other one without populating the cavity mode.

We propose a scheme for creating atomic coherent superposition states via the technique of stimulated Raman adiabatic passage in a {lambda}-type system where the final state has twofold levels. With the application of a control field, it is found that the presence of double dark states leads to two arbitrary coherent superposition states with equal amplitude but inverse relative phases, even though the condition of multiphoton resonance is not met. In particular, two orthogonal maximal coherent superposition states are created when the control field is resonant with the transition of the twofold levels. Remote Entanglement via Adiabatic Passage Using a Tunably Dissipative Quantum Communication System

Effective quantum communication between remote quantum nodes requires high fidelity quantum state transfer and remote entanglement generation. Recent experiments have demonstrated that microwave photons, as well as phonons, can be used to couple superconducting qubits, with a fidelity limited primarily by loss in the communication channel. Adiabatic protocols can overcome channel loss by transferring quantum states without populating the lossy communication channel. In this work, we present a unique superconducting quantum communication system, comprising two superconducting qubits connected by a 0.73 m-long communication channel. Entangled-state preparation via dissipation-assisted adiabatic passages

The main obstacle for coherent control of open quantum systems is decoherence due to different dissipation channels and the inability to precisely control experimental parameters. To overcome these problems we propose to use dissipation-assisted adiabatic passages. These are relatively fast processes where the presence of spontaneous decay rates corrects for errors due to nonadiabaticity while the system remains in a decoherence-free state and behaves as predicted for an adiabatic passage. As a concrete example we present a scheme to entangle atoms by moving them in and out of an optical cavity.

Coherent population transfer and quantum entanglement generation involving a Rydberg state by stimulated Raman adiabatic passage

We study a dilute sample of cold atoms to achieve efficient population transfer from a ground state to a Rydberg state. This sample is approximately divided into many independent microspheres containing only two atoms. Each pair of atoms in a microsphere may become quantum correlated via the dipole-dipole interaction characterized by a van der Waals potential. Our numerical results show that, by modulating detunings of a pump pulse and a Stokes pulse applied in the counterintuitive order, we can drive the dilute sample either into the blockade regime or into the antiblockade regime.
