Parity-violating effects for low-energy elastic neutron deuteron scattering are calculated for Desplanques, Donoghue, and Holstein (DDH) and effective field theory types of weak potentials in a distorted-wave Born approximation, using realistic hadronic strong interaction wave functions, obtained by solving three-body Faddeev equations in configuration space. The resulting relation between physical observables and low-energy constants can be used to fix low-energy constants from experiments. Potential model dependencies of parity-violating effects are discussed.

In this paper, we present methodology for investigating theoretically parity violation in both the elastic and break-up channels of electron--deuteron scattering, restricting ourselves to energies in which non-relativistic expansions are allowed for nucleons. The deficiency in the standard impulse approximation related to gauge invariance is remedied by relating it to the ''elementary particle'' treatment. Results for parity violation in elastic electron--deuteron scattering are presented and discussed.

Parity violation in low-energy pp scattering in the composite-quark bag model

Parity nonconservation in the NN interaction is studied in the composite quark bag model. The dominant contribution to the P-odd effects comes from the weak interaction between the quarks inside the compound quark bag. Our model describes the nucleon interaction in the strong-interaction domain without adjustable parameters, while in the weak-interaction domain the only unknown parameter is the mixing of two degenerate six-quark states of odd parity. The magnitude of the mixing parameter is determined from the value of the asymmetry A/sub z/ in scattering of longitudinally polarized protons by protons, taken at a certain energy, after which the modelmore »« less
