The quasiparticle energy spectrum of the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) equations contains discrete bound states, resonances, and nonresonant continuum states. We study the structure of the unbound quasiparticle spectrum of weakly bound nuclei within several methods that do not rely on imposing scattering or outgoing boundary conditions. Various approximations are examined to estimate resonance widths. It is shown that the stabilization method works well for all HFB resonances except for very narrow ones. The Thomas-Fermi approximation to the nonresonant continuum has been shown to be very effective, especially for coordinate-space HFB calculations in large boxes that involve huge amounts of discretized quasiparticlemore » continuum states.« less

Persistent contribution of unbound quasiparticles to the pair correlation in the continuum Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approach

The neutron pair correlation in nuclei near the neutron drip-line is investigated using the self-consistent continuum Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory formulated with the coordinate-space Green's function technique. Numerical analysis is performed for even-even N=86 isotones in the Mo-Sn region, where the 3p{sub 3/2} and 3p{sub 1/2} orbits lying near the Fermi energy are either weakly bound or unbound. The quasiparticle states originating from the l=1 orbits form resonances with large widths, which are due to the low barrier height and the strong continuum coupling caused by the pair potential. Nuclear halos and drip lines in symmetry-conserving continuum Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory

We review the properties of nuclear halos and nuclear skins in drip line nuclei in the framework of the spherical Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) theory with continuum effects and projection on a good particle number with the Gogny force. We first establish the position of the unprojected HFB drip lines for the two most employed parametrizations of the Gogny force and show that the use of finite-range interactions leads almost always to small-sized halos, even in the least bound nuclei, which is in agreement with most mean-field predictions.
