We explore time-resolved Coulomb explosion induced by intense, extreme ultraviolet (XUV) femtosecond pulses from a free-electron laser as a method to image photo-induced molecular dynamics in two molecules, iodomethane and 2,6-difluoroiodobenzene. At an excitation wavelength of 267 nm, the dominant reaction pathway in both molecules is neutral dissociation via cleavage of the carbon–iodine bond. This allows investigating the influence of the molecular environment on the absorption of an intense, femtosecond XUV pulse and the subsequent Coulomb explosion process. Comparison of kinetic-energy distributions and ionic fragment yields of CO[sub 2] and N[sub 2]O arising from Coulomb explosions induced by multiphoton ionization and fast-ion impact

The comparison of kinetic-energy distributions and ionic fragment yields produced from CO[sub 2] and N[sub 2]O in fast-ion collisions and multiphoton ionization reveals three comparative and distinguishing features of the interactions. They are (i) similarities in the O[sup [ital q]+] (specifically O[sup 3+]) energy distributions from CO[sub 2] arising from correspondingly similar magnitudes of the peak electric fields occurring in the interactions, (ii) a strongly dissimilar pattern of site-dependent ionization as observed in N[sub 2]O, and (iii) a marked similarity in the production of anomalously energetic C[sup 2+] ions arising from high-lying CO[sup 2+] precursors having a substantial charge-transfer character.

Theoretical investigation of the origin of the multipeak structure of kinetic-energy-release spectra from charge-resonance-enhanced ionization of H{sub 2}{sup +} in intense laser fields

Ionization rates of the hydrogen molecular ion H{sub 2}{sup +} under linearly polarized pulse of intense laser fields are simulated by direct solution of the fixed-nuclei time-dependent Schroedinger equation for the Ti:sapphire laser lines {lambda}=790 and 800 nm at high intensities starting from just above the Coulomb explosion threshold (i.e., 6.0x10{sup 13}, 1.0x10{sup 14}, 3.2x10{sup 14}, and 1.4x10{sup 15} W cm{sup -2}).
