The connection between electronic and structural degrees of freedom - whether successive, coincident, or causal - suffuses the study of phase transitions. The Shastry–Sutherland model of a planar network of coupled spin dimers (1) and its physical realization in SrCu₂(BO₃)₂ (SCBO) provide a fundamental quantum mechanical test of this connection at the onset of antiferromagnetic order. We summarize in Fig. 1 the current understanding of SCBO’s phase diagram for T < 200 K and an intermediate pressure range of 3.5–6 GPa (2⇓–4). The Haldane–Shastry spin chain and the topological basis realization

In this paper, based on the topological basis states, we investigate the Hamiltonian family (H{sub 2},H{sub 3},H{sub 4}) of a closed four-qubit Haldane–Shastry spin chain. Not only the two-qubit interaction form, but also the three-qubit interaction form and the four-qubit interaction form are presented in terms of spin operators. Meanwhile, we explore some particular properties of the topological basis states in these systems. With Yangian algebra, the symmetry of the systems and the transitions between the eigenstates have been investigated. In-plane magnetization behaviors in the Shastry-Sutherland system TbB{sub 4}: Monte Carlo simulation

The in-plane magnetization behaviors in TbB{sub 4} are theoretically studied using the frustrated classical XY model, including the exchange and biquadratic interactions, and the anisotropy energy. The magnetization curves at various temperatures are simulated, and the magnetic orders are uncovered by the tracking of the spin configurations. In addition, the effects of the in-plane anisotropy and biquadratic interaction on the magnetization curves are investigated in detail. The simulated results suggest that the magnetic anisotropy within the (001) plane owes to the complex interplay between these couplings, and the anisotropy term plays an important role.

The Influence of Long-Range Hopping on Ferromagnetism in the Hubbard Model on the Generalized Shastry-Sutherland Lattice

The projector quantum Monte-Carlo method is used to examine effects of long-range electron hopping on ferromagnetism in the Hubbard model on the generalized Shastry-Sutherland lattice. It is shown that the long-range electron hopping with the exponentially decaying hopping amplitudes t{sub ij}(α)∼e{sup −α|R{sub i}−R{sub j}|} stabilizes the ferromagnetic state for a wide range of electron hopping α, electron interactions U, and electron concentrations n above the half-filled band case n = 1.
