It is well known that the electro-magnetic fields in high-gradient RF structures can cause electron emission from the metallic structure walls. If the emitted electrons are captured and accelerated by the accelerating fields so-called dark-current is induced. Dark-currents have been measured and studied for various RF-structures. In this paper the authors present measurements of RF induced signals for the SLC S-band structures. For nominal gradients of 17 MV/m it is shown that the dark-current can be strong enough to significantly reduce the signal-to-noise ratio of the SLC beam wire scanners. Hydrogen exchange (HX) NMR spectroscopy is widely used for monitoring structure, stability and dynamics of proteins at the level of individual residues. The stochastic replacement of protons by deuterons typically leads to an exponential decrease of the NMR signals. However, an unusual signal increase was observed in HX of several amides for T4 lysozyme L99A. This effect can be attributed to peak sharpening as a result of reduced dipolar relaxation from proximal amide protons that experience more rapid hydrogen/deuterium (H/D) exchange. Attachment to multipulse NMR spectrometer for observing nuclear quadrupole resonance signals of /sup 14/N nuclei

The nuclear quadrupole resonance method of study of the structure of materials provides information on crystal-lattice movements, the chemical environment of resonant nuclei, and other aspects of the structure of solids. This paper describes an NQR attachment to a multipulse NMR spectrometer for observing nuclear quadrupole resonance signals of N 14 nuclei. With a frequency range of 1-8 MHz on a single-coil circuit, the NQR spectrometer is based on the RI-2303 multipulse NMR spectrometer. A schematic diagram of the unit, including the preamplifier and receiver, is shown.

The authors describe an apparatus allowing the observation of the NMR static longitudinal component of nuclear magnetization M/sub z/ by a SQUID at low magnetic fields and at T = 4.2 K in Plexiglas, Teflon, and CaF/sub 2/. The higher order NMR Larmor lines at 2f/sub 0/, 3f/sub 0/, where f/sub 0/ is the Larmor frequency of the allowed NMR line, were measured.
