Title: Radioactive effluents from nuclear fuel reprocessing plants in the European Community, 1974-1978

This article covers radioactive effluent releases from nuclear fuel reprocessing plants in the European Community. Discharges of both gaseous and liquid effluents from these installations are given for the period 1974 to 1978, with values expressed both in absolute terms and normalized to net electricity production from the fuel. An assessment is then made of the exposure of members of the public resulting from the 1978 discharges. It is concluded that the exposure of members of the public from the 1978 discharges lies within the variations in exposure that result from natural background radiation.
