Abstract

This dataset contains measurements of gaseous ammonia (NH3(g)) at the S2 (Mt. Airy) site during the CoURAGE study from April to June 2025. This dataset includes 10-minute and 30-minute average NH3(g) concentrations in units of micrograms per cubic meter. Measurements are conducted with an AiRRmonia NH3 analyzer manufactured by RR Mechatronics. A data flag of -999 indicates missing data due to the instrument being offline (maintenance, calibration, etc.) while a data flag of -888 indicates measurements below the instrument LOD (LOD = 0.1 micrograms per cubic meter). The uncertainty of the measurements is 15%.

Cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) measurements were collected during CoURAGE from March - June 2025 at the BSEC urban atmospheric chemistry supersite (39.32057 N, 76.6246 W). CCN number concentrations (# cm-3) were obtained at a frequency of 1 second using a cloud condensation nuclei counter (CCN-100, Droplet Measurement Technologies). The CCN counter was operated in stepping mode, measuring CCN over a range of supersaturations from 0.2 to 1.0%. Organic Acid Aerosol Measurements from the Mount Airy Site for CoURAGE

This study investigates the prevalence and distribution of organic acid aerosols in a rural environment using filter-based measurements collected in Mount Airy, Maryland, during the CoURAGE campaign from March 19th through June 12th 2025. PM2.5 filters quantify a range of organic acids commonly associated with secondary organic aerosol formation and atmospheric oxidation processes. Each filter was collected using a 15 LPM sampler and was extracted in ultrapure Millipore water (>18 MΩ), allowing water-soluble organic acids to be extracted into solution for analysis. Gas phase measurements of volatile organic compounds (VOC) taken at the DOE ARM S2 site for the CoURAGE campaign using a Vocus ELF PTR-ToF (Tofwerk) mass spectrometer. Measurements of several VOC's (e.g., acetaldehyde, acetone, benzene, etc.) were obtained at 1-minute resolution from 4/08 to 5/19.
Aerosol Thermodynamics (Aerosol Liquid Water Concentration and Aerosol pH) at S2 during CoURAGE

These data report aerosol liquid water content (ALWC) and aerosol pH for the S2 (Mt. Airy) site during CoURAGE for April - June 2025. The ISORROPIA-II aerosol thermodynamic equilibrium model was used to compute ALWC and pH. The model was run in forward mode, with solids formation disabled (metastable mode), according to Pye et al. (Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2020). CoURAGE Urban Gas-Phase NH3

1-second Picarro gas-phase ammonia (NH3) measurements were collected as part of a 3-month intensive operation period (IOP) from mid-March through mid-June that was funded by the DOE Biological and Environment Research project in conjunction with the DOE ARM CoURAGE deployment to the greater Baltimore region. To complement the NH3 measurements at the Mt. Airy regional background S2 site, the Picarro G2103 NH3 analyzer was deployed at the urban atmospheric chemistry supersite ( 39.32057 N, 76.6246 W) to be able to compare and contrast urban vs regional NH3 and urban vs regional aerosol physicochemical properties.
