HydroSource: A Platform for US Hydropower Data for Basin-Scale Applications presents a high-level overview of ORNL’s HydroSource data products that can be used in various basin-scale applications across the United States to realistically conceptualize and quantitatively analyze the complex dynamics, effects, and implications of energy-water systems. This product is an ArcGIS Story Map that contains an array of interactive and static maps.

This dataset contains 1,261 hydropower facilities with associated Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) relicensing metrics. Anticipated FERC license renewal dates are summarized by river reach for observing areas of opportunities for basin-wide collaboration on environmental mitigations. Identifying rivers and basins with facilities that have similar anticipated Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) relicensing dates may be one potential indicator that multiple licensees within the same basin may be willing to collaborate on a basin-scale relicensing effort. The US Hydropower Potential at National Conduits dataset provides the results of a national assessment of various conduit hydropower potential for the year 2022. Hydropower potential and generation estimates are provided for various types of municipal, agricultural, and industrial applications across all 50 states. A total of 1.41 gigawatts of hydropower potential is estimated across the US. This dataset provides conduit hydropower estimates summarized at state resolution in Shapefile (*.shp) format and at county resolution in comma separated (*.csv) and *.shp format.
