Abstract

This data package contains wind speed data retrieved from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Center for Environmental Information (NCEI). Measurements were collected at the Marcos A. Gilbert airport in Panama City, Panama. This station can be considered as an analogue to the NGEE Tropics Parque Natural Metropolitano site in Panama. In the attached Excel file, wind speed units have been converted from MPH to m/s (1MPH = 0.447 m/s). Data from NCEI can be accessed at: https://gis.ncdc.noaa.gov/maps/ncei/, STATION NAME: MARCOS A GELABERT (Airport in Panama City). Within the attached zip file are three .csv data files, three PDF files containing an explanation of gap filling procedures and site information, and a read.me text file with metadata and instructions for accessing data from NCEI.

Sap flow was monitored at three Panamanian sites: Parque Natural Metropolitano (PNM), Barro Colorado Island (BCI), and Bosque Protector San Lorenzo (SLZ), using a total of 54 G-20mm sap flow sensors. Raw output from the data logger connected to 54 sap flow sensors are converted from xxx.dat. to xxx.csv. files. The metadata file (E-field log_v1-1_PNM_BCI_SLZ_sapflow_2022.xls) has information on locations where the sensors were installed, and other installation/maintenance details. This data package contains sap flow data from the NGEE Tropics site in San Lorenzo, Panama (PA-SLZ) from 22 January 2019 to 31 December 2019. Sap flow measurements quantify plant-level transpiration, which varies across spatial and temporal scales. It is a key trait in understanding plant hydraulic functioning. Here sap flow was measured using ‘Granier-type’ thermal dissipation probes. This dataset contains values of leaf water potential from a monthly census of predawn and midday measurements conducted on nine trees in each of two sites in Panama from December 2015 to July 2019.
