This dataset, collected from Duke Forest Free Air CO2 Enrichment (FACE) – Forest-Atmosphere Carbon Transfer and Storage (FACTS-I) experiment, includes variables describing the meteorological conditions above canopy, within canopy, and soil depending on the variable. The Duke FACE experiment was located in a loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) plantation established in 1983. Naturally regenerated broadleaved species including sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua L.) and tulip poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera L.), mostly in the overstory, and winged elm (Ulmus alata Michx.) and red maple (Acer rubrum L.) were common in the understory. Meteorological data, site parameterisation data, and protocols for simulation of the five Free Air CO2 Enrichment (FACE) experiments and one Open Top Chamber (OTC) experiment that were the study sites of the FACE Model Data Synthesis (FACE-MDS) project. This dataset should contain everything necessary to simulate these six CO2 enrichment experiments -- Duke, Kennedy Space Center, NDFF, ORNL, PHACE, and Rhinelander -- following the FACE-MDS simulation protocol. ORNL FACE Soil Moisture Data

On the FACE site, soil moisture data are available for ring 1 through ring 5 from 1997-2007, and there are data for ring 6from 1997-1999. Ring 1 and ring 2 are exposed to elevated CO2, and the remaining rings have ambient CO2. Soil moisture was measured with a time-domain reflectometer(TRASE systems, Soil Moisture Equipment Corporation,Santa Barbara, CA) to a depth of 20cm. The missing-value indicator for the soil moisture data is -99.99.

Dataset FACTS-I

Soil temperaturemeasured via thermistors at one point (unless otherwise specified) at 10-12 cm depth in each ring.Raw, clean and gap-filled data are available for 2004-2006.
