Meteorological data are currently being collected at one location at the Teller Mile 47 (TL_MM47) Research Basin Site, Seward Peninsula (N64 58' 36.918", W166 12' 32.67", 67 meters above sea level). The site was installed and initial measurements started in September 2018 and it has operated continuously since then. This dataset provides meteorological data collected at two instrumented Power, Communication, and Data Collection (PCDC) Stations, located at Council Road Mile Marker 71 (CN_MM71) and Council Road Mile Marker 68 (Rocky Top). Measurements began in June of 2018 at CN_MM71 and Rocky Top. Data will be added periodically/annually. Geophysical surveys were conducted at the NGEE Arctic Teller mile marker 27 site, Teller mile marker 47 site, and Kougarok mile marker 64 site during the summers of 2018, 2019, and 2021. These surveys were used to identify locations of near-surface permafrost during the period of maximum seasonal thaw depth for ground truth data used in machine learning predictions of near-surface permafrost extent at each site. NGEE Arctic Plant Traits: Nodule Biomass, Kougarok Road Mile Marker 64, Seward Peninsula, Alaska, 2017

Nodule biomass was measured within fifteen plots at the Kougarok hillslope site in June and July of 2017. The sampled plots were distributed across two ecotypes that contain the deciduous shrub Alnus viridis subsp. fruticosa (alder). Alder forms a symbiosis with nitrogen-fixing Frankia bacteria living within root nodules. Nodule biomass per unit area was determined with extensive soil core collection under the alder canopy. Alder height and basal area were also recorded.
