The dataset comprises measures, using Colorado State University's Ice Spectrometer (IS, an immersion freezing device with a range from 0°C down to -26 to -29°C) of atmosperic ice nucleating particle (INP) concentrations taken on ARM's Mobile Facility (AMF-1) Aerosol Observing System, near Villa Yacanto in central Argentina, during the Cloud, Aerosol, and Complex Terrain Interactions (CACTI) Experiment. Surface shortwave aerosol radiative forcing during the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement Mobile Facility deployment in Niamey, Niger

This study presents ground-based remote sensing measurements of aerosol optical properties and corresponding shortwave surface radiative effect calculations for the deployment of the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Program’s Mobile Facility (AMF) to Niamey, Niger during 2006. Aerosol optical properties including aerosol optical depth (AOD), single scattering albedo (SSA), and asymmetry parameter (AP) were derived from multi-filter rotating shadowband radiometer (MFRSR) measurements during the two dry seasons (Jan-Apr and Oct-Dec) at Niamey. The Micropulse Lidar (MPL) Ship Correction (MPLPOLFSSHIPCOR) VAP is intended to correct the effect of ship motion on the lidar measurements, which are intended to be zenith pointing. MPLPOLFSSHIPCOR is provided as an evaluation product for the MARCUS campaign. The signal return values and the range_bin_width are corrected to account for the motion (pitch, roll, heave) of the ship. If motion measurements are unavailable, the signal return values and range_bin_width are unavailable.
Characteristics of solar radiation in the Sahel. Case study: Niamey, Niger

The principle climatic characteristics of the region of Niamey, Niger, in the Sahelian belt are illustrated on the basis of long meteorological series and with the aim of understanding the influence of dust on radiation. Empirical formulae are presented which make it possible to determine global radiation on the basis of duration of insolation, and diffuse radiation on the basis of global radiation. These formulae contain monthly constants, and it is shown that these are linked. The formulae are of practical interest for users for solar energy in the region.
