Abstract

HgS is Zincblende, Sphalerite structured and crystallizes in the cubic F-43m space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Hg2+ is bonded to four equivalent S2- atoms to form corner-sharing HgS4 tetrahedra. All Hg–S bond lengths are 2.60 Å. S2- is bonded to four equivalent Hg2+ atoms to form corner-sharing SHg4 tetrahedra.

Hg(CO2)2 crystallizes in the monoclinic P2_1 space group. The structure is zero-dimensional and consists of two mercuric formate molecules. Hg2+ is bonded in a distorted linear geometry to two O2- atoms. Both Hg–O bond lengths are 2.13 Å. There are two inequivalent C3+ sites.
