Aircraft inspection validation experiments and the use of NDI validation samples

The development and application of emerging nondestructive inspection (NDI) techniques must keep pace with the growing understanding of aircraft structural aging phenomena. This article presents the important infrastructure -- both hardware and procedural -- used by the FAA`s Aging Aircraft NDI Validation Center (AANC) to validate NDI techniques for aircraft applications. Several examples of ongoing experiments are provided to demonstrate how the validation process is implemented.
