Bulk gels and thin films were prepared in the systems PbO-TiO{sub 2} and PbO-ZrO{sub 2} via the sol-gel route. Pb acetate, and Ti or Zr methoxyethanoate were used as precursors. Equimolar ratios of Pb/Ti or Pb/Zr were used. Bulk samples were studied by means of thermal analysis, MR spectroscopy, and XRD analysis. For electrical measurements, films were deposited from the sol on alumina substrates with comb-type gold electrodes by dip-coating. The films were heated to 200 and 700{degrees}C for 1 h. The humidity sensitivity of the films was evaluated by measuring d.c. at various relative humidity (rh) values. In the rh range from 5% to 85%, the current variation was as large as 3 orders of magnitude. Different trends were observed for the two materials: larger d.c. variations with rh for PbTiO{sub 3} were observed at rh < 50%, while for PbZrO{sub 3} the d.c. variation was smoother at rh < 40%, and steeper at higher rh values.
