Electrophoretic deposition is an established shaping technique for ceramics. A historical review of EPD of ceramics is given followed by new insights into the mechanism of EPD. The latest application of EPD to Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}/ZrO{sub 2}/La{sub 2}O{sub 3} {center_dot} 11Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} laminates is discussed and the resulting microstructures presented.
