Air is a resource of all National Park Service units, and many park resources and values as found at Grand Canyon, Great Smoky Mountains and Yosemite National Parks are dependent on good air quality. Air pollution has been found to impair visibility, injure vegetation, erode buildings and monuments, acidify water, leach nutrients from soil, and affect visitors` enjoyment of natural and cultural park resources. In order to prevent future or remedy past harmful effects, the National Park Service carefully manages air resources affecting the nation`s {open_quotes}crown jewels{close_quotes}. This report describes efforts of national park managers to stay in compliance with the Clean Air Act and protect the park`s air quality and natural resources therein.
