Measurement of the Ratio micro-Ge/Gm for the Proton by Recoil Polarization

The electric and magnetic form factors are of highest importance in the understanding of the nucleon structure, because they are an image of the charge and current distributions inside the nucleon. It is possible to measure them by probing the nucleon with an high energy electron beam, such as the one produced at Jefferson Laboratory in Virginia, USA. If the form factors are well known at low four-momentum transfer squarred Q^2, unfortunately the traditional method to measure them fails at higher energy, or shorter distance. Jefferson Lab developed a new method, based on recoil proton polarization, which is able to measure GE and GM at high Q^2 with very good accuracy. I will first present the importance of the nuclear form factors, and explain how they are extracted by the Rosenbluth separation traditional method.
