Layered xLiMO{sub 2}{lg_bullet}(1-x)Li{sub 2}M'O{sub 3} electrodes for lithium batteries : a study of 0.95LiMn{sub 0.5}O{sub 2}{lg_bullet}0.05Li{sub 2}TiO{sub 3}.

Journal Article · · Electrochem. Commun.
The electrochemical properties of 0.95LiMn{sub 0.5}O{sub 2}{lg_bullet}0.05Li{sub 2}TiO{sub 3} have been investigated as part of a study of xLiMO{sub 2}{lg_bullet}(1-x)Li{sub 2}M'O{sub 3} electrode systems for lithium batteries in which M=Co, Ni, Mn and M'=Ti, Zr, Mn. The data indicate that the electrochemically inactive Li{sub 2}TiO{sub 3} component contributes to the stabilization of LiMn{sub 0.5}Ni{sub 0.5}O{sub 2} electrodes, which improves the coulombic efficiency of Li/xLiMn{sub 0.5}Ni{sub 0.5}O{sub 2}{center_dot}(1-x)Li{sub 2}TiO{sub 3} cells for x<1. The LiMO{sub 2}{lg_bullet}(1-x)Li{sub 2}M'O{sub 3} electrodes provide a rechargeable capacity of approximately 175 mAh/g at 50 C when cycled between 4.6 and 2.5 V; there is no indication of spinel formation during electrochemical cycling.
