Inelastic buckling of ring-stiffened circular cylinders under uniform external pressure

Experimental tests are described on six ring-stiffened machined circular cylinders, which were tested to destruction under uniform external pressure. Three of these vessels failed by inelastic shell instability and three of these vessels failed by inelastic general instability. Semi-empirical design charts are provided for elastic and inelastic shell and general instability, based on the present series of experiments and the results of other experiments.
