Improve wastewater treatment

A Louisiana refinery used a comprehensive approach to replace its wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) to meet current and future environmental regulations. Because treating all process and storm water from the facility was extremely cost prohibitive, the refinery implemented pollutant-prevention methods and improved operating and maintenance procedures to minimize the size and operating costs for the proposed new WWTP. Besides incorporating present environmental operating criteria, the WWPT`s new design needed to have operating flexibility for future environmental mandates. This case history shows how the refinery incorporated present and future environmental regulations into the WWTP design and continued to operate while constructing the new facility.
