- Willbros USA Inc., Tulsa, OK (United States)
- British Gas, Houston, TX (United States)
An epoxy sleeve repair system developed by British Gas has been used extensively for permanent repairs of gas, crude oil, and product pipelines. In can be installed without the loss of product and does not require system shutdown. Static and fatigue behaviors of the epoxy sleeve repair have been thoroughly evaluated and proven by numerical studies, extensive full-scale testing, and system applications for more than ten years. Since 1992, the company has been providing epoxy sleeve repair installation services to a major Omani oil concession operator for rehabilitation of various categories of pipelines. Rehabilitation work has been performed under two consecutive project contracts, and work under the current contract was completed in the first quarter of this year. Willbros furnished all installation services for both projects, as well as all epoxy sleeve repair materials, including steel sleeves manufactured to British Gas design specification. In total, the two projects successfully rehabilitated over 790 miles of various sizes and categories of pipelines, including 10-in. diameter to 42-in. diameter crude oil lines and 6-in. to 20-in. diameter high-pressure gas lines. All lines remained in service during the rehabilitation process. British Gas, under direct contact to the client, provided technical assistance, inspection, certification of each epoxy sleeve repair installation.
