Recycling process extracts valuable products from waste
- Molten Metal Technology Inc., Waltham, MA (United States)
Industrial hazardous waste generators are particularly affected by worldwide regulations promoting advanced industrial waste management methods being implemented worldwide. A recently commercialized pollution prevention and recycling technology, Catalytic Extraction Processing, uses a molten metal bath to process most of the wastes that traditionally have been incinerated, but without combustion`s limitations. Because CEP uses solution chemistry, the process involves highly controlled reactions engineering to eliminate harmful substances and create desirable products from waste. Developed and commercialized by Waltham, Mass.-based Molten Metal Technology Inc., CEP uses the catalytic and solvent properties of molten metal to reduce wastes to their constituent elements. The technology achieves destruction and removal efficiencies greater than 99.9999 percent for typical waste feeds. By manipulating co-fed materials and such process parameters as pressure and temperature, the waste`s elements are reconfigured into gases, ceramics and metals that can be reused or sold. The process occurs in a sealed system, producing no ash or other harmful emissions.
