The application of new surface wellhead and production tree technologies to tension leg platforms

This technical paper addresses the specific needs related to surface wellhead and completion equipment installed on a Tension Leg Platform (TLP) and new technologies that are now available to provide improved performance and safety during installation and operating life span. All of the basic wellhead requirements are reviewed along with those aspects that are specific to TLP`S. Space restrictions, weight limitations, riser motion/tensioning, alignment, product performance, and cost saving technologies are some of the parameters to be considered by the wellhead designer. Design concepts and a suggested level of technology considerations are presented to enable the operator, designer, and equipment supplier to select the appropriate technologies that achieve the most effective value.
