Title: New CLAS results on kaon electroproduction

Conference ·
OSTI ID:897356

A program of strange particle electroproduction off the proton using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) in Hall B at Jefferson Lab is maturing and producing significant new results. This talk will focus on our most recent electroproduction results for electron beam energies up to 6 GeV covering the full range in cos {theta}*{sub K}, Q{sup 2} from 0.5 to 3.5 (GeV/c){sup 2} and W from threshold to 3.0 GeV for both K{sup +}{Lambda} and K{sup +}{Sigma}0 final states. These include measurements of cross sections and the separation of unpolarized structure functions {sigma}{sub T}, {sigma}{sub L},{sigma}{sub LT}, and {sigma}{sub TT} as well as the polarized beam structure function {sigma}LT{prime} and beam-hyperon double polarization observables. By measuring these observables over a broad range of kinematics and combining them with complementary photoproduction results, a better picture of the underlying strangeness production mechanism can be obtained. These results can be interpreted within the framework of hadrodynamic models to measure the contributions of resonant and non-resonant amplitudes in the production process and provide a valuable tool to search for missing resonances.
