The energy conversion was discovered in a fluid-filled porous formation. When seismic waves propagate through a fluid-saturated porous formation, a relative flow of the pore fluid to the solid matrix can be generated. The streaming electric current induces electromagnetic wave in the formation. There is an opposite phenomenon, i.e. the conversion of electric energy into acoustic energy in the porous formation. The electroseismics in porous sandstone samples is investigated by ultrasonic experiments in the authors` laboratory. The acoustic waves with water-saturated samples and the excited electric signals on the rock surfaces are measured by an electrode on its surface. The relationship between the electric potential and acoustic wave for the conductivity of water-saturated rocks are compared with those of dry rocks. The electroseismic conversion in rock samples is also investigated. Electroseismics could be an effective means for estimating the fluid-saturated porous formation.
