The modern nodal methods developed in the past few decades have been successful in predicting the neutron behavior in light water reactors of rectangular assembly geometries. The interest in applying these methods to hexagonal geometries of VVER, high-conversion reactors, and fast neutron reactors has been growing recently. The transverse integration procedure typically used in most modern nodal methods, however, causes some limitations for both rectangular and hexagonal geometries. In particular, the transverse integration in hexagonal nodal methods results in very complicated transverse leakage that contains nonphysical singular terms.
