In this paper, a companion to one on condensation, the recent research on boiling heat transfer with azeotropic and zeotropic refrigerant mixtures (ZERMs) is reviewed. Some important points are summarized, such as the main reasons for the degradation of heat transfer with mixtures, the circumferential variation of the wall temperature for forced evaporation of mixtures inside horizontal tubes, the suppression of nucleate boiling, the improved peak heat flux, methods of enhancement of pool and flow boiling of mixtures, correlations for boiling or evaporation of mixtures, and pressure drop in forced convective evaporation of mixtures. This review is mainly concerned with the evaporation of miscible mixtures, especially ZERMs. Only a few selected papers related to immiscible mixtures are reviewed here.
