Title: Development of automatic ultrasonic remote-controlled in-service inspection equipment for the outlet pipes of the Demonstration Advanced Thermal Reactor

The Demonstration Advanced Thermal Reactor is a heavy-water moderated, light-water cooled, vertical pressure tube type reactor. It consists of 616 pressure tubes, calandria tanks, and inlet and outlet pipes. To perform in-service inspection, ultrasonic inspection equipment that is applicable to those small-caliber pipes is required. The equipment must also be made compact so that it can access the narrow parts between the pipes and it must be automated and remote controlled to reduce exposure of the inspection personnel to radiation. Basic technologies for in-service inspection equipment were manufactured for trial for application to these pipe structures. A structural mock-up was used to test the functional performance of equipment applying those developed technologies. This paper provides an overview of the trial manufacture of automatic ultrasonic inspection equipment for the outlet pipes.
