Performance prediction forms an important part of centrifugal impeller theory and design. A number of performance predictions methods are available from simple ones to sophisticated calculations involving fully viscous-three-dimensional flow. Both the centrifugal impeller designer and user are interested in simple and accurate methods to access the performance of their machines. But most important, performance prediction is the best useful tool for the designer to optimize new designs. This paper discusses the continued need for a simple and accurate performance prediction method, and also points out the weaknesses of current methods. The paper emphasizes, on experimental basis, that the accuracy of any performance prediction method is highly dependent on the method`s ability to correctly represent the blade-to-blade loading.
