Properties of Concentrated Plutonium Nitrate Solutions

Selected properties were measured for solutions containing about 500 and 700 g/l plutonium (IV) in 4-5M nitric acid: density, viscosity, vapor pressure, boiling point, radiolytic gas (H2) evolution rates, and corrosion rate on Ti and 304L stainless steel. Pu solubility was determined to be 550 to 800 g/l in 2.5 to 7M HNO3 at ambient temperature and 820 to 860 g/l in 3M HNO3 at 50°C. (DLC)
