Transport-magnetism correlations in the ferromagnetic oxide La{sub 0.7}Ca{sub 0.3}MnO{sub 3}

We present results of temperature and magnetic field dependent resistivity {rho}({ital H},{ital T}) and bulk magnetization {ital M}({ital H},{ital T}) measurements on post-annealed La{sub 0.7}Ca{sub 0.3}MnO{sub 3} thin films that were grown via pulsed-laser deposition. Both the resistivity and the anomalously large negative magnetoresistance peak near the ferromagnetic ordering temperature ({ital T}{sub {ital c}}=250 K), with {Delta}{rho}/{rho}{sub 0}={minus}85% at 50 kOe. A clear correlation is found between {rho} and {ital M} that is described by the phenomenological expression {rho}({ital H},{ital T}){proportional_to}exp[{minus}{ital M}({ital H},{ital T})/{ital M}{sub 0}]. This correlation reflects the important interplay between transport and magnetism in this system, and suggests that the transport below {ital T}{sub {ital c}} involves polaron hopping. {copyright} {ital 1995} {ital American} {ital Institute} {ital of} {ital Physics}.
