Nuclear dependence of R = sigma(L)/sigma(T) in deep-inelastic scattering

Conference ·
OSTI ID:838348
It is well known that the F2 structure function of the nucleon is modified in the nuclear medium, but until recently, this has not been seen in the ratio R = sigmaL/sigmaT. Existing data at moderate to large values of Q2 rule out significant A-dependent effects in R. However, substantial effects are possible at low Q2 and have been recently reported by the HERMES collaboration for a measurement at low x and low Q2. Preliminary data will be shown from the recently run Jefferson Lab experiment E99-118 which indicate less of an effect than the HERMES data.
