Visible light sensitization by cis-bis(thiocyanato)bis(2,2{prime}-bipyridyl-4,4{prime}-dicarboxylato)ruthenium(II) of a transparent nanocrystalline ZnO film prepared by sol-gel techniques

Transparent nanocrystalline ZnO films have been prepared on a conducting glass substrate by sol-gel techniques. Their sensitization by adsorption of a ruthenium-based complex and subsequent incorporation as the light harvesting unit in a regenerative photoelectrochemical cell are described. The resulting device has a monochromatic incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency of 13% at 520 nm. 23 refs., 6 figs., 1 tab.
