An X-ray structural analysis of single crystals of erbium isobutyrate [Er{sub 2}(CH{sub 3}CHCH{sub 3}CO{sub 2}){sub 6}(H{sub 2}O)] {center_dot} H{sub 2}O was carried out. The crystals are monoclinic, a = 13.480(3) {angstrom}, b = 13.847(3) {angstrom}, c = 19.533(5) {angstrom}, {gamma} = 112.86(2){degrees}, space group P2{sub 1}/n, Z = 4. The structure comprises polymeric chains with alternating erbium atoms in different coordination environments, which are bound with each other through bi- and tridentate bridging carboxyl groups.
