A consistent higher-order theory is developed via an energy variational approach for free vibration analysis of cross-ply doubly-curved shell panels constructed in rectangular planform with simple supports. The laminated panel is treated under 3-D boundary conditions with surface traction free everywhere over all four edges and both lateral surfaces. The three-dimensional displacement field is assumed in a combined form of in-plane double Fourier series and cubic polynomials in the thickness coordinate. In addition to the prescribed surface conditions, interlaminar continuity of displacements and transverse stresses is also observed in the derivation of a system of modified Lagrange`s equations by use of the Lagrangian multipliers. Natural frequencies thus obtained are reasonable compared to existing solutions.
